A major step has been taken for the development of higher education in Malkangiri, a leading tribal and border district of Odisha. Malkangiri MLA and District Planning Committee (DPC) Chairman Shri Narasingh Madkami met Union Education Minister Shri Dharmendra Pradhan at his office in New Delhi. During the meeting, he submitted a demand letter for setting up a central university in Malkangiri district.
Education to be developed on the border of three states In a letter written to the Union Minister on July 6, MLA Shri Madkami stated that Malkangiri is one of those limited districts of Odisha where no state or central university has been established yet.
Since Malkangiri district touches the borders of three major states namely Chhattisgarh, Telangana and Andhra Pradesh from a geographical point of view, if a university is established here, it can become a major and exemplary centre for higher education. The establishment of a Central University in Malkangiri will be a historic and transformative gift to the tribal community of the entire South Odisha. The proposed Central University will provide affordable quality education and high-quality research opportunities to the tribal students of the region.
It has been requested to focus on some special courses keeping in mind the local needs, such as: Tribal Studies, Biodiversity and Forestry, Hill Agriculture, Medicinal Plants, Development Studies, The MLA expressed the hope that under the visionary leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan, this long-awaited dream of the people of Malkangiri will be fulfilled very soon. Meanwhile, the positive steps taken by Shri Madakami as the Chairman of the District Planning Committee for education and infrastructure development have been welcomed by the local leaders, educationists and the tribal community.
