While the front of the Malkangiri District Hospital is kept shiny, the reality behind it is completely opposite. The scene in the basement behind the main building of the hospital is very worrying. There is an empire of plastic bottles, medical waste, and garbage all around. Not only that, the drainage system is completely ruined, and black sewage is seen in the abandoned area. The walls are getting dirty, polluting the environment even more.
According to government rules, every corner of the hospital must be clean for the Kayakalp award. But looking at this part of the Malkangiri Medical, it seems that it has not been cleaned for months. The presence of such contaminated water bodies in hospitals where people come to get cured has raised concerns about the spread of infectious diseases like dengue and malaria by breeding mosquitoes and flies. In such a situation, the question arises that if the conditions behind the hospital are so dilapidated and unhealthy, then on what basis has it been awarded the ‘Kayakalpa’ award for the best cleanliness for three consecutive years? It is far from logical to keep the front clean just for show and neglect the back, which has led to public dissatisfaction.
