Collector’s Strict Warning: Zero Tolerance for Illegal Liquor Counters, Strict Action Ahead

A review meeting on the activities of the Excise Department was held at the District Headquarters Conference Room under the chairmanship of Nuapada District Collector Madhusudan Dash.
Initially, District Excise Collector Sanghammitra Pradhan welcomed everyone and presented detailed information on the crackdown on illicit liquor and revenue collection being carried out by the Excise Department in the district. The District Collector directed the Excise officers to take a strict approach against bootleg liquor. He directed to identify and dismantle shops and establishments selling bootleg liquor illegally in the district and take strict legal action against the persons involved.


A total of 274 cases were registered against illegal liquor trade in the district till May this financial year and 173 people were arrested. During this period, 3069 liters of bootleg liquor, 69,120 liters of fermented wash, 227.55 quintals of mehul phul and 14.8 kg of ganja were seized, it was informed in the meeting.
The meeting was informed that the Excise Department has collected a revenue of Rs 2 crore 78 lakh 26 thousand 278 till May this financial year. The District Collector praised the Excise Department for successfully completing the lottery process for the closure of IMFL ‘off’ shops. Excise Inspector Hirabati Thati, Section Officer Soumya Kant Otta, Excise Sub-Inspector Vrindavati Bhuva, Excise Assistant Sub-Inspector Balabhadra Rout and other officers of the department were present in the meeting.
