An incident occurred at an Anganwadi center in Kurli village of Chutuanka panchayat under Turkela block of Balangir district at 9 am on Tuesday. Three children present there were injured when a part of the center roof suddenly collapsed. According to information, two students and one male student had gone to the open Anganwadi center earlier as the nearby school opened at 10 am. The Anganwadi worker explained that the accident occurred while they were sitting in the Anganwadi center.
On receiving information, the local Sarpanch and Anganwadi Supervisor reached the spot. After the incident, the locals and Anganwadi workers immediately rescued the injured children and sent them to Kantabanji Health Center for treatment. After the treatment of the children, they were taken home. It is understood that the students were slightly injured and a major danger was averted. The villagers have complained that the old building looks shiny from the outside with plaster and paint, but is completely dilapidated inside.
After this incident, there has been concern in the local area about the dilapidated condition of the Anganwadi center. The villagers have complained that the administration has not paid attention to repairing or constructing a new building even though the Anganwadi center has been in a dilapidated condition for a long time. The locals have demanded that the Anganwadi center be repaired at the earliest.
