Although the information board states that the road has been improved at a cost of Rs 8 lakh from the District Council funds, the road condition in Santhinagar village of Podia block has deteriorated. With the arrival of rain, the road is completely filled with mud and water, making the lives of the villagers difficult.
According to the information, the District Council Malkangiri took up the work under the Non-SFC – CFC scheme in the financial year 2023-24 under the name “Road Improvement from RD Road to Santhinagar Village Riverside”. A provision of Rs 8 lakh was made for this. The construction of this road under Podia Gram Panchayat was supposed to benefit about 100 families.
But now the condition of the road is completely opposite. Big potholes have formed on the road and there is waterlogging in it. Due to tire marks and mud, it has become impossible to ply two-wheelers and four-wheelers.
Locals have alleged that “the board says Rs 8 lakh has been spent. But nothing has been done. Students are not able to go to school, it is difficult to take sick people to the hospital.” The villagers expressed their dissatisfaction with the administration and demanded that a high-level inquiry be conducted immediately, action be taken against the guilty contractors and the road be reconstructed. Otherwise, they will be forced to protest in the coming days.
