Ajit Agarkar Tenure Suspense: No Clear Answer In BCCI AGM, Know Who Holds Decision Power

The 95th Annual General Meeting (AGM) of the BCCI, the apex body for Indian cricket, was held in Mumbai. Representatives from all affiliated cricket associations across the country, along with BCCI office-bearers, attended the meeting. However, the situation regarding the Indian cricket selection committee remains unresolved. No decision was taken at the meeting regarding extending Ajit Agarkar’s tenure or appointing a successor; instead, the member units left the decision on this matter to the board officials. Agarkar, for his part, has already made his stance clear, having informed the BCCI that he does not wish to continue in the role. Following the meeting, a senior BCCI official stated that office-bearers have been empowered to make decisions regarding matters concerning the selection committee. BCCI Vice-President Rajeev Shukla also confirmed that board officials would take the subsequent decisions regarding the selection committee. With Agarkar’s current tenure nearing its end, there had been considerable discussion about his future prior to the AGM; however, even after the AGM, the board has not clarified whether Agarkar’s term will be extended or if a new face will be entrusted with the responsibility. In other words, the decision regarding Agarkar has been deferred for now; the matter remains unresolved. BCCI officials will now decide on the next course of action. Agarkar became the Chairman of the Men’s Senior Selection Committee in July 2023 and continued as part of the five-member committee at the 2025 AGM.
