Under the special campaign being conducted by the Pink SUP team under the direction of District Magistrate Madhusudan Dash to rid Nuapada district of single-use plastic, a massive raid was conducted at Shubham K Mart M.B. Mall. During the raid, more than 1 quintal of banned single-use plastic items were seized from the shop and a fine of Rs. 25,000 was levied for violating the rules. During the raid, the shop’s sales counter, warehouse and other storage areas were inspected.
During the inspection, it was found that a large quantity of banned single-use plastic items were being stored and used. Subsequently, all the prohibited items were seized and legal action was taken. Additional Director of Water Division Prabha Singh, Additional Treasury Officer Madhusmita Parija, District Labour Officer Jasmine Sahu, District Coordinator Anil Kumar Lenka, CDPO Nirupa Nag, Video Rohit Kumar Bhoi and BRC Avinash Mohapatra were prominently involved in the raid. The customs authorities have been warned that strict action will be taken like sealing the shop and cancellation of license if such violations are repeated in the future.
District Collector Madhusudan Dash has appealed to the district residents and traders to stop using and selling single-use plastic and join the environment protection campaign. The administration has said that such raids and inspection campaigns will continue on a larger scale in the coming days to make the district completely SUP free.
