Whether it is Gen-Z or Millennials, everyone looks forward to Saturday. It offers a day of rest after the hustle and bustle of the work week. Everyone enjoys the weekend in their own way, often making plans in advance—some book movie tickets, others go partying, while some prefer staying home to cook and enjoy delicious meals. However, while Millennials often prefer going out on weekends, Gen-Z tends to do the opposite; they prefer staying at home.
Gen-Z does not necessarily want to go out for movies or dinner every weekend. Instead, they prefer to enjoy their time off at home, dressed in comfortable pajamas and doing things their own way. Rather than feeling anxious seeing others having fun, they find happiness on their own terms. Nowadays, Gen Z is experiencing JOMO (the joy of missing out) rather than FOMO (the fear of missing out).
JOMO means prioritizing one’s own preferences and comfort. While spending time with friends is great, there are moments when being alone, relaxing, or engaging in activities you personally enjoy is equally important. Happiness isn’t always found in a crowd; sometimes, peace can be found right in your room—lounging in your pajamas, watching your favorite TV show, listening to music, or pursuing a hobby. For Gen Z, missing out isn’t FOMO; it’s JOMO.
