S Jaishankar Slams Pakistani Journalist: ‘A Terrorist Country Is Asking Me That?

On Friday, External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar gave a fitting retort to a Pakistani journalist who asked a question about terrorism. During a press conference held alongside Liberia’s Sara Beysolow Nyanti on the sidelines of the UN General Assembly (UNGA) session, a Pakistani journalist posed a question regarding terrorism. Jaishankar replied, “A terrorist nation is asking me a question.”

India has repeatedly raised the issue of cross-border terrorism at the United Nations and accused Pakistan of supporting terrorist groups. This is not the first time Jaishankar has given a befitting response to a Pakistani journalist’s question on terrorism. On a previous occasion, a Pakistani journalist… Jaishankar was asked how long terrorism would continue to emanate from various parts of South Asia—including New Delhi, Kabul, and Pakistan—and how long the region would remain in a state of war. Jaishankar replied, “You are asking the wrong minister this question. Only a Pakistani minister can tell you how long Pakistan will continue to support terrorism.”

Zero tolerance towards terrorism…

External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar met with South African Foreign Minister Ronald Lamola and Brazilian Foreign Minister Mauro Vieira. The three leaders jointly condemned last year’s Pahalgam terrorist attack and reiterated their commitment to a zero-tolerance policy against terrorism. India, Brazil, and South Africa jointly constitute the IBSA Dialogue Forum.

External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar expressed concern at the UNGA regarding attacks on commercial vessels and seafarers in the Gulf, the Red Sea, and the Black Sea. He stated that India and Liberia stand united in their commitment to the safety of ships and seafarers. He referred to the recent attack on the Antigua and Barbuda-flagged cargo ship MV Cape Dow in the Gulf of Oman, in which an Indian sailor lost his life.
