Dunes Aviation has filed a Rs 3 crore defamation case against Bollywood actress Nora Fatehi. The company has alleged that the company’s reputation and business interests have been damaged due to alleged defamatory and irresponsible comments made by Nora on social media. The case has been filed in a Gandhinagar court. The court of Senior Civil Judge R. Agarwal will hear the case on September 25.
Allegations of calling aircraft ‘Lego’ and ‘toy’
According to Dunes Aviation’s case, Nora Fatehi recorded videos inside the company’s Cessna Citation CJ2 aircraft during a flight from Mumbai to Jaipur last December. She is accused of posting the videos on her Instagram handle. According to the company, Nora described the aircraft as ‘small’, ‘toy’ and ‘Lego aircraft’ in the video. The company has termed these comments as defamatory and careless.
Commercial loss claim in the case
In the case, Dunes Aviation has claimed that Nora Fatehi’s comments had a wide impact due to her over 46 million social media followers. This has been alleged to have damaged the company’s brand image, reputation and commercial interests. The company has also claimed that after the comments were published, there has been a drop of about 15 to 20 percent in flight bookings and an increase in booking cancellations.
Claim that the aircraft was fully compliant
Dunes Aviation has said that the aircraft in which Nora travelled was a standard and appropriately sized charter aircraft. The company has stated that the aircraft is certified by the DGCA and is fully airworthy. In addition, the case also states that the aircraft was legally operated under a valid NSOP (Non-Scheduled Operator’s Permit). The company alleges that Nora’s comments were made without any technical knowledge, fact-checking or verifiable basis.
3 crore compensation and public clarification demanded
Dunes Aviation has demanded Rs 3 crore compensation from Nora Fatehi in a defamation case. It has also sought a court order to remove the alleged objectionable comments and content made about the airline on social media platforms.
