Double Engine Growth Hits a Roadblock: The Pathetic State of Toilets in Bijepur

The local people are unhappy with the dilapidated condition of the public toilet located at the old bus stand complex under Bijepur Notified Area Council (NAC) in Bargarh district. While various government schemes are being implemented for cleanliness and basic civic amenities, the condition of this toilet is raising many questions. According to the local residents, the toilet has been lying in a disorganized condition for a long time. There are no doors in some places, there is a lack of regular cleaning and the common people are reluctant to use it due to the increase in the smell and mosquito infestation. They have complained that this system built for cleanliness has now become the cause of an unhygienic environment.

According to the residents, there is a risk of infection and other health problems if the toilet is used in such an environment. They said that despite drawing the attention of the administration many times, a permanent solution has not been found. A local resident said, “The double engine government is said to be very fast, but looking at the condition of this public toilet in Bijepur, it does not seem to have reached here.” This comment reflects the dissatisfaction of the locals. Regarding the incident, the local residents and commuters have demanded that the Bijepur NAC authorities ensure the immediate repair, regular cleaning and maintenance of the toilet. However, in this regard, Bijepur NAC Executive Officer Vibhodatta Sahu was contacted repeatedly on his mobile number 7008198844, but he did not pick up the phone and his response could not be obtained. On the other hand, we also contacted Bijepur MLA Sanat Gadtia, but he also did not pick up the phone.
