On the day when National Doctors’ Day is being celebrated across the country in recognition of the selfless service and humanitarian contribution of doctors, government doctors in Kalahandi district are protesting their various demands. They have chosen the path of protest, alleging that their demands have not been met for a long time.
Medicine is not just a profession, but a sacred vow of human service. Doctors who are engaged in the service of patients day and night are often forced to work amidst limited infrastructure, shortage of staff and heavy workload. Along with this, incidents of attacks and misconduct on doctors in some places have also become a cause for concern.
In such a situation, doctors from various government health institutions in Kalahandi district sat peacefully in front of the office of the District Chief Medical Officer on the occasion of National Doctors’ Day. They drew the attention of the government to their eight-point demands.
According to the protesting doctors, they have been presenting various service and working environment-related demands to the government for a long time. But they alleged that they were forced to sit on the protest as their demands have not been resolved yet.
According to the doctors, if the problems of safe working environment, necessary infrastructure and service for doctors are resolved, the common people will also be able to get good quality healthcare. Therefore, they have urged the government to consider their demands seriously. The doctors have warned that if the government does not take immediate positive steps on their demands, then the agitation will be expanded and intensified in the coming days. On the other hand, no immediate response was received from the government or the concerned department regarding these demands.
