Paralakhemundi:- There have been allegations of irregularities in the restoration work of Patnaik and Shankuri ponds under the Gajapati District Municipal Council for a long time. It is reported that the Berhampur Vigilance Team has taken over the then junior engineer of the Paralakhemundi Municipal Council and currently working in the Gunapur Municipal Council D. Yudhishthira. The Berhampur Vigilance Department has taken major action in the much-publicized pond corruption case in the Paralakhemundi Municipal Council of Gajapati District. In this incident, it is known that not only junior engineer D. Yudhishthira, but also two other people are being questioned by the Vigilance Team.
There were allegations of widespread financial irregularities in the development work of the Sankuri pond and Patnaik pond under the Paralakhemundi Municipal Council. The quality of the work was very poor, and the vigilance found evidence of widespread fraud in passing the bill. It is learnt that the vigilance has taken three key people into its custody in this case. Along with engineer D. Yudhishthira, the then ME of the Paralakhemundi Municipal Council Sanjiv Champati has also been taken away.
Similarly, it is learnt that the contractor carrying out the work, Surendra Panigrahi, has been taken away from his residence in Berhampur, Berhampur. While further investigation is underway in this incident, it is learnt that apart from these three people, the then Executive Officer (EO) and the accountant who were present at the time of the incident have also been questioned by the vigilance for a long time. It is learnt that the investigation into who else is involved in this corruption is also ongoing.
