Acting on specific intelligence inputs, a joint special operation was conducted by the BSF jawans of 177 Battalion and the District Volunteer Force (DVF) Malkangiri on Friday at Ghanabeda under Yodamba Police Station in Swabiman area of Chitrakonda Block, Malkangiri District. During the search operation, the joint team recovered a secret Maoist dump in the hilly and forest area between Orapadar and Ghusumpadar villages, about 7 km from Ghanabeda under Yodamba police station.
The items recovered from the said Maoist dump include IEDs weighing 3 kg each, 32 gelatin sticks, 1 detonator, 500 grams of gun powder, 3 meters of codex wire, 1 Philips radio, 2 torches, 1 small solar panel, 2 irons with 12-volt batteries, 150 grams of jet spray, 1 pipe, 2.5 meters of electric wire. The recovery has enhanced the security of the security forces and the people living in the villages bordering Andhra and Odisha. The BSF is continuously conducting anti-Maoist operations in the worst affected areas of Malkangiri district. Once considered a stronghold of Maoist activities, the security forces are now actively taking control of this area, which has ensured lasting peace and security in the area.
