Four villages in the remote Nakamamudi panchayat under Korukonda block of Malkangiri district are facing a serious water problem. People in Bayapada, Suripada, Bataguda, and Badaguda villages are struggling for water. Bayapada village has a population of 300, but 3 tubewells are lying idle. Similarly, Suripada village has a population of over 250, but 2 tubewells are lying idle. Bataguda village has a population of over 200 but 2 tubewells are lying idle, and Badaguda village has a population of 500 but 4 tubewells. But all of them are lying idle. The tubewells that are rarely used are not suitable for drinking because they produce muddy water.
The women of the village are walking for miles to collect water. They do all their daily work, including cooking, with that water. The condition of the domestic animals is also deplorable. Despite repeatedly demanding the administration repair the tube wells, the villagers have complained that no steps have been taken. Even in the villages, all the equipment for connecting the solar pipe line has been lying for a long time. While the solar equipment is about to be destroyed, no construction work is being done. The villagers have warned that a befitting reply will be given in the next panchayat elections. These four villages have not been developed because they are remote and Naxal-prone. Now, even though the situation has changed, the villagers have expressed their anger that no progress has been made. So, it remains to be seen when drinking water facilities will be provided to these four villages.
