Today is Guru Diwas. It is a day for teachers. Teachers are the embodiment of luck and future. The day is dedicated to teachers who impart knowledge, skills, ethics and inspiration among crores of students in the country. It was the wish of the country’s second President Dr. Sarvepalli Radhakrishnan – that his birthday be celebrated as ‘Guru Diwas’. Prime Minister Narendra Modi interacted with teachers on Guru Diwas. Prime Minister Modi interacted with the National Teacher Award winners of 2026.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi met the National Teacher Award winners at his residence in New Delhi. He spoke to them on many issues and also sought their advice. The video of this occasion has also been shared on Prime Minister Modi’s social media handles. Talking to a national award-winning teacher, Prime Minister Narendra Modi said, “I am the MP from Kashi and I started an awareness campaign there about breast cancer and I am happy to see that now women are coming forward and getting screened. This was not the case earlier. Another great experience is setting a world record for the highest number of screenings in a day.” Along with this, Prime Minister Modi sought advice to improve his public speaking skills. He said, “If I were your student and wanted to become a good speaker, what advice would you give me? What should I do?” In response, a teacher said, “First of all, you need to have self-confidence. Self-confidence comes from many practices.”
What Modi said about screen time- “Screen time has now become a kind of addiction. One thought comes to my mind: Maybe the child becomes more interested in games and when I say games, I don’t mean video games, but real games on the field. Then he can slowly come out of this addiction. In this context, the more we engage children in creative work, the more we should practice creating programs that encourage it,” the Prime Minister said.
Shaping students into good human beings is a noble task for every teacher. Students who are guided on the path of morality and achieve prosperity and fame are the embodiment of the success of the teacher. It is not just about studying, but in the moments of life, everyone has some or the other teacher. A teacher becomes a God for a student who guides them on the path of life.
The Prime Minister added, “I am speaking to you, but I want to tell the entire education world that we need to go beyond books and curricula and enter the lives of children more than ever. Childhood should not be allowed to die. The greatest work of preserving childhood can be done by a teacher. It is the job of a teacher to preserve childhood within oneself.”
