After the news was published on the 7th of this month that the road built under the Chief Minister’s Road Scheme in Muribahal Block, Balangir District was sinking and cracks were formed, allegations have been raised that the contractor had only completed the work by throwing stones. Instead of carrying out permanent repairs, the responsibility was completed by hastily spreading stones on the road.
According to the villagers, the work on this road, which was built at a cost of crores of rupees, was of poor quality from the beginning. The road was built without building guardrails at the required places, which led to the road sinking and cracks forming due to rainwater. After the news was published, questions have been raised about its durability as instead of carrying out complete repairs, the work was only completed by throwing stones.
An independent technical investigation should be conducted to check the quality of construction of this work. If substandard work is proven, then strict action should be taken against the concerned contractor and the officer in charge and proper and permanent repairs should be made to the road.
