Chikiti-The healthcare system in Chikiti block of Ganjam district is currently in deep crisis. While there has been a shortage of doctors in various health centers of the block for a long time, the condition of Nuapada Primary Health Center has become the most worrying. According to the complaints of the people, negligence and irresponsibility are more visible here than healthcare. It is alleged that Nuapada Medical Center is running almost on God’s mercy as there has been no regular doctor for a long time. Discontent among the common people has reached its peak as patients do not get timely treatment in times of emergency. A woman from Nuapada area died nearby, while Gelli Naik of Davar village is undergoing treatment at the Berhampur Bada Medical Center in a critical condition.
According to the family members, when she came to Nuapada Medical Center for treatment of a dog bite, she was given the wrong medicine and wrong injection instead of proper treatment, which made her condition critical. Similarly, the complaint that the assistant teacher, Late Kumudini Devi, did not receive urgent medical care even though she came to the medical center in a critical condition at midnight has added to the situation. After this incident, anger and dissatisfaction have been increasing among the locals. The biggest question is, if there is no doctor in the Chikiti block even though there is a government system for medical care, then who will the common people trust?
People are asking why the public representatives, health department and administration are silent on this serious problem. The locals have strongly demanded that the vacant doctor posts in various health centers of the Chikiti block be filled immediately and regular doctors and skilled health workers be appointed in Nuapada Medical Center. Otherwise, they have warned that a large-scale public movement will be formed against this inefficiency in healthcare.
